Dorothee studied fine art and Interior Design in Paris at the Ecole Supérieure d'Arts Graphiques. She has exhibited widely in both France and Ireland and maintains her own gallery and studio in County Cork, Ireland. She is currently represented by Castlemartyr Gallery in Ireland.
I am fascinated by the power and presence of rock formations along the Wild Atlantic Way, in Ireland. My intention goes beyond capturing their physical form to express their essence, their timeless energy, and the myriad emotions they evoke.
My use of both oils and acrylics, each with unique qualities, allows me to explore and render different aspects of the rocks' character. I begin a painting by studying the rocks in their natural environment, through plein air sketches and photographs, followed by meticulous observation and interpretation in the studio. I often cover the canvas with a wash of complementary colours to give a tonal vibration.
As the work progresses, I connect deeply to my subject and allow the energy of the rocks to flow through me and inform the rhythm of my brushstrokes. This approach infuses my work with a sense of emotion and authenticity.
